a: Contact us and we’ll get you set up with an estimate and get you on the calendar. (Keep in mind we are super busy so try to give us 2 weeks notice when scheduling. If you are calling about a last minute or rushed project we will do our best to fit you in!)
a: 0-400 sq ft should take 1-3 days depending on finish type, layout and stain 400-1000 will take 3-6 days again, depending on finish type, layout and stain. In some cases and for some families with particular time needs, we can pull off a floor in one day. But call first if you need that and we’ll see what we can do to help! *We need your flexibility. Lot’s of things can change the schedule of your floor, one being how every other floor that week is going:) The smallest change in any floor can change the whole weeks schedule so be flexible. We will give you our best heads up if we need to move or change your schedule.
a: We have dust containment systems attached to the dustiest machines. These machines are designed to eliminate 93%-97% of all dust. Yes there is dust but with these high-powered vacuums, it is virtually eliminated. Additionally, we seal off rooms not being sanded and keep any dust contained in that room. We vacuum ledges, windows and doors and clean up well when done. There will be small amounts of airborne dust though so plan on needing to cover any items you don’t want dust getting on. These should be removed from the rooms we are working in. Pictures, decorations, curtains etc.
a: YES AND NO. If we are staining your floor, the stain we use has some toxins in which if you are pregnant or have small children you will probably not want to be in the house that evening. The FINISH we use is oil and water based. So oil is more toxic and strong smelling while water based acrylic finish is extremely low VOC and has no fumes whatsoever and no need to leave house while it’s applied or drying.
a: Nope. You don’t need to skip work or take time off to be there. We just need to be able to get in, so on some cases when people have to be at work they just leave a key in a designated spot or we arrange to meet you there the morning of before you leave to work so you can meet us and go over any last minute details.
a: No we don’t. We can cover 99% of the details about your floor via email and phone. If there’s an interesting spot or detail you feel we need to see you can take a photo and send it over to us. If there’s a final detail like choosing a stain color etc. we can tackle that when we arrive to begin work.
Absolutely. We just ask you wear socks if the floor is close to being done sanded and we are not returning until the next day. The only time you can’t be on the floor is when stain and finish is drying. Generally you can walk on stain and finish 2-4 hours after applied. In most cases if we applied stain or finish at the end of the afternoon, you could walk on it with socks by 7-9pm that night if we are using water based finish.
a: Yes, you are ready to refinish your floors but what about all that furniture? We have partnered with a fully-insured Professional Moving company here in town that gives us and our customers incredible deals to move furniture. While it will cost a little more to hire this company, you can rest easy that you won’t have to be the one to move that piano.
a: Maybe, maybe not. It depends on how long they have been there & what kind of stain it is. Wood is a living organism so the longer a stain or imperfection has sat there, the deeper it goes. No amount of sanding can get a bad stain out. We recommend that if the stain is still undesirable after sanding, and not in a space that will be concealed by rug or furniture; STAIN the floor dark enough to blend the imperfections in. Dark floors can look very beautiful!
a: Yes we can, but it can be tricky and it’s not a method used often. It has to be a blend where we are going with the grain of the wood. It can’t be across grain and it cannot be a match to a pre-finished floor. If you had a floor purchased and installed with a coating already on it, that is an aluminum oxide coating and an on site urethane finish will not look the same. Also note, even if we used the exact same stain, matching dried aged finish is impossible. In most cases the new finish will look clearer than the old. One way is to refinish the section you want done, and then when doing the final coat apply a new coat over everything so there is one uniform coating. We recommend doing everything so you have 100% uniformity.
a: Yes it is a very durable finish. But if you have a highly trafficked area, kids & pets we recommend using a High Traffic Coating. It’s $150/500 sq ft of flooring. It’s a superior top- coat that has aluminum oxide added to it for added scratch resistance and durability. Keep in mind, a floor once fully dried is actually plastic. No plastic on earth is designed to handle foot traffic, toys, dirt and use day after day for too many years. Even if you use the best finish on earth, you still need to re-coat every 2-4 years.
a: Yes. We refinish the treads only not the risers. Some banisters, railings and spindles need to be removed prior to work being done.
a: Yes you can choose satin, semi-gloss or gloss.
a: Nope sorry. Pray.
a: Honestly, if there’s a couple bad gaps we can fill them with wood filler. But know that wood expands and contracts throughout the seasons so filling gaps can look good for a short period but at some point will crumble beneath the finish and then look worse than a gap. We suggest, leave em. Floors have character and part of that is gaps.
a: We’ll need to look at it and see how bad it is. Sometimes the damage has spread beyond just the wood and will take more than a patch to fix. Send us a pic or have us come look at it and we’ll see what we can do to help!
a: It doesn’t need to be removed but know, it will get bumped and nicked in places. To have a perfect sand and properly sealed floor it’s best to have it off. If you choose not to and do not want us to remove it, plan on needing to retouch spots with paint. Shoe removal is an additional fee.
a: All the time. Sometimes that’s the nicest for you because there’s no scheduling and hopping around a floor in progress. And it’s a funner transformation because you’re not seeing every step of the process. Go have fun and come home to a new floor:) While you party away we’ll bring the party to your place!!
